Week 15 Prompt Response
What do you think are the best ways to market your library's fiction collection? Name and describe three ways you do or would like to market your library or your future library's fiction. These can be tools, programs, services, displays - anything that you see as getting the word out.
1. Booktalks
Booktalks are a great way to market the library's fiction collection. I found a blog created by a school librarian who shares her work on digital booktalks. These are slideshows that highlight and promote library books. I absolutely love this idea and think it could work for the public library as well. This would be a great resource for users who often use the library's website for new updates and book recommendations. Here is a link to one of the slideshows: https://www.readerpants.net/2023/01/womens-history-month-digital-booktalk.html
The booktalks created for this blog are primarily for younger readers but this could be adapted for all ages. This is a fun and creative way to recommend books from the library's collection. There are so many creative avenues you can explore with this idea. One could create a slideshow dedicated to books for Pride Month or highlight books that are new additions to the library's collection.
2. Book Displays
Book displays are one of the most creative ways to market the library's collection. These displays allow librarians the opportunity to be creative and think outside the box. I found one book display (pictured below) that recommends books for fans of the game Fortnite. I think tying in video games with book recommendations is an excellent idea, especially for younger readers.
I like the book talks idea. I agree that it works well for youth fiction.
